Improving Nonprofit Management Through an Equity Framework

Managing a nonprofit is one of the hardest jobs you can do - and it can also be the most rewarding. This session is designed for aspiring and current nonprofit managers with any experience level, and in any position (e.g., CEO/Executive Director, project director, etc.) interested in learning more about how to improve nonprofit management through an equity framework. 

After completing this session, participants will be able to:
1. Identify key nonprofit management functions from an equity framework.
2. Incorporate an equity framework to improve nonprofit management.
3. Recognize how an equity framework is aligned with the unique characteristics and strengths of the diverse nonprofit sector in northern NM how it can help address the management challenges experienced by small and mid-sized under-funded organizations.

From One to Many: Exploring Collaborative Leadership

This interactive workshop will explore the topic of collaborative leadership. The nonprofit sector has adopted many business narratives, including that of the solitary visionary leader. But is this model really serving our communities and organizations? This workshop will explore the downsides of aggregating power in one person and the benefits of expanding our ideas about how leadership can work. We'll walk through the potential benefits and downsides of co-leadership models, evolutionary governance, and other ways to include more staff in the decision-making process. We'll talk through steps to prepare for transition from the solo executive to co-leadership. Participants should leave with a better understanding of how co-leadership works on a practical level, and some ways to get started on the journey from one to many.  Learning objectives:

Incorporating Wellness into Your Day and Organization

Nonprofit Organizational Life Stages and Your Strategic Plan

How to Generate Unrestricted Revenue for Your Organization

Are you looking to diversify your revenue stream? Would you like to increase organizational sustainability by creating recurring, predictable revenue streams for general operating? In this training, we will introduce Social Enterprise for nonprofits and walk participants through the process of identifying organizational assets, strategically selecting an asset to monetize, and developing a business plan around your core competencies. Topics covered:

  • How to identify and monetize your organizational assets;
  • Examples of successful nonprofits with social enterprises;
  • Components of a social enterprise business plan;
  • How your social enterprise impacts your nonprofit mission; and,
  • Tax repercussions for nonprofit organizations who generate revenue through social enterprise.

Walk away with:

  • A list of your organization's monetizable assets;
  • Examples of nonprofits that create their own revenue;
  • Examples of nonprofits that launched social enterprises in the pandemic;
  • A format for starting the conversation about social enterprise at your organization; and,
  • Inspiration and insight into potential revenue streams.
