Create a Fund at the Foundation

What type of giving is best for you?
Do you want the Santa Fe Community Foundation to choose the grantee? Consider a discretionary fund, which leaves the annual grantmaking decisions to the Foundation to address the most pressing community needs as they arise. It’s an excellent way to ensure that your philanthropy transcends the barriers of time and remains deeply relevant.
Are you looking for a way to roll up your sleeves and be actively involved in your grantmaking? Then a donor advised fund may be right for you. Or do you want to provide ongoing support for an organization that you already know and admire? Establish a designated fund.
Concerned about a particular area, such as education? Consider a field of interest fund. You and other donors make contributions to the fund. The Foundation ensures the grants go to nonprofits providing services in that area.
At the Santa Fe Community Foundation, we help you choose the option that best fits your philanthropic interests. Plus, you can be anonymous, or you decide on the appropriate level of recognition you would like.
Types of Funds

When you want to take an active role in making recommendations for grants |
An example: The Just Woke Up Advised Fund which supports charitable organizations in and outside New Mexico. |
| Designated Fund |
When you want to provide permanent ongoing support for one or more specific nonprofit organizations |
An example: The Diana Ganz Nova HIV/AIDS Education Fund which supports the work of the Southwest CARE Center |
| Discretionary Unrestricted Fund |
When you want to address pressing needs in the community by allowing the Foundation to choose grantees |
An example: The Gilliam Family Fund which supports the work of SFCF to build healthy and vital New Mexico communities. |
| Discretionary Field of Interest Fund |
When you want to narrow your focus, but allow the Foundation to choose grantees in one or more area, such as the environment, the arts, or a specific community or region |
An example: The John Brinckerhoff Jackson Fund which supports grantees in the area of health and human services |
