Envision Fund

The Envision Fund of the Santa Fe Community Foundation is the largest LGBTQ+ funder in the state of New Mexico with over $900,000 made in grants since its inception. The Envision Fund has established three priority areas for making grants:

  1. Creating an HIV-free generation in New Mexico
  2. Combatting discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in whatever form (such as employment, housing, immigration, access to health services, etc.)
  3. Supporting school-based programs that create a safe environment for all students, including LGBTQ+ students

The Envision Fund is a statewide funder of LGBTQ+-led and -focused organizations. Organizations based throughout New Mexico are eligible for funding.

The 2021 fall community grant cycle is now closed.

History of the Fund

For 23 years, the Envision Fund has enriched the lives of New Mexico’s LGBTQ+ population by providing financial support to nonprofits addressing the most critical needs facing the community. In 1997, the National Lesbian and Gay Community Funding Partnership provided the Santa Fe Community Foundation (and 37 other community foundations across the country) with grants to enable them to establish LGBTQ+ funds.

Foundation leadership, board members, and volunteer members of the committee helped grow the fund’s assets. In 2012, the Fund changed its name from the Lesbian and Gay Community Funding Partnership to the Envision Fund to better reflect the changing face of the LGBTQ+ movement. That same year, to support efforts to achieve marriage equality in New Mexico, the fund established a Marriage Equality Task Force, a time-limited effort to raise funds from local donors to support the efforts of Why Marriage Matters New Mexico.

Today

The fund is staffed by a committee of volunteers who represent the diversity of New Mexico’s LGBTQ+ population. Committee members raise money for the fund, host outreach events, and help make decisions about grants. The Santa Fe Community Foundation is particularly grateful to partner with three sister community foundations in New Mexico – the Albuquerque Community Foundation, the Taos Community Foundation, and the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico in funding Envision Fund grants.
